Permanent Makeup – What is it?
|
Permanent Makeup makeup is facial cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “micropigmentation”, “Micropigment implantation” or “dermagraphics”. The implantation technique deposits colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis.
By using different methods and tecniques such as Pen Powered Machine, Softap or Microblading tool.
MICROBLADING is a very popular technique, it is similar to Softap method in which a tool is used to place hair like strokes on to the Eyebrow area. This technique is considered semi-permanent since the color will not last as long as conventional cosmetic tattooing. The hair strokes can last for ONE to 3 years. Because everyone is different it is impossible to give you an exact as to how long the her strokes will last for you. * I do advise at least one (1) follow up visit in order to accomplish the best possible brow outcome.
Immediately after and for the next couple days the color will appear darker, more bold, the hairstrokes may appear longer than desired. Be patient. The color will lighten 30-40%, the swelling will reduce and results will be revealed and balance with in 4-8weeks. My policy is that touch ups are done with at least 4 weeks of healing time allowed, no exceptions.

How are Permanent Makeup Procedures Performed?
Permanent makeup procedures are performed using various devices. I use BOTH the pen or rotary machine and the Softap the non-machine or hand device. The process suggests a consultation, the choice of application of pigment, and for best results, at least one or more follow up visits for the evaluation of healed color placement and pigment color retention.
Who Benefits from Permanent Makeup?
People who meet minimum age requirements and have the ability to heal properly from minor wounds, can benefit from the liberating benefits of permanent makeup. Interest in this service spans the young to the more mature; those who desire a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. It is especially valuable to people who can’t wear traditional cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities; active people who want to look their best for sports activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics; and those who don’t want to worry about “sweating off” or reapplying cosmetics. Permanent Makeup also benefits the vision challenged who have difficulty applying their cosmetics; and others with dexterity related conditions such as arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke survivors, and busy people who don’t have time to spend applying and refreshing makeup throughout the day and evening.
What Type of Permanent Make up Procedures can be done?
Permanent Makeup procedures can be very subtle or dramatic depending on what you are looking for.

Is Permanent Makeup Really Permanent?
Permanent makeup procedures are considered permanent because pigment is tattooed into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo or colorant (pigment) in general, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement or color refreshing. The fact that most people will require periodic color refreshing of their permanent cosmetics is the opportune time to work with your technician to reevaluate your overall appearance profile and determine if any changes are appropriate. Longevity varies from person to person depending on their life style (sun exposure), the color(s) used for the permanent cosmetic procedure, and are also thought to be affected by topical products applied to the skin.
How Long Does Each Procedure Take?
The initial procedure will generally take approximately 1 to 2 ½ hours; there are records to establish; photographs to take; desired design and color to discuss; the procedure to perform; and the aftercare requirements to discuss. Follow up or future color refresher procedures usually take less time and are suggested as maintenance.
Is It Painful?
Most people experience some discomfort. This will vary according to each individual’s pain threshold. There are different methods available, however, to help with discomfort management, including various topical anesthetics that are specifically developed for our industry. To put this in perspective, thousands of body art tattoos are performed annually, possibly millions. As a rule, traditional tattoo professionals do not use any anesthetics for their tattoo procedures. Anesthetics for permanent cosmetics are more of a tattoo service “luxury” because of the nature of the tattoo location and the fact that permanent cosmetics falls into the beauty treatment category.
Is It Safe?
All proper sterilization and disinfection guidelines are met in my facility. I have trained in the medical/dental field and maintain an updated CE course required for that license. I follow what is required to be in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) including Blood Borne Pathogen Standards and Universal Safety Precautions.
All Needles are new and sterile for each client. Unopened new and sterile needles are opened in your presence.
Disposable sterilized one-time use machine parts are used and disposed of in a sharps container immediately after the procedure has been completed.Personal protection equipment and surgical sterile gloves are for each client and changed during the procedure when needed.
The procedure area is clean and disinfected for each client.

What If I Don’t Like It?
Although the procedure is considered permanent, these procedures do have flexibility in changing color and shape to some extent, depending on the expertise of your technician. Colors will appear darker immediately following the procedure but will soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and procedure. It’s very important to realize that often the new procedure represents something somewhat different; at times color where there was no color at all or very little. It takes time to become acclimated to a new look (very often this applies to eyebrows which were sparse and unnoticeable before the permanent cosmetic brow procedure.) Eyeliner color is more evident due to the contrast to the skin color. Lip color can take up to six weeks to reflect the final color. Be patient. After the procedure has healed, and you are able to make an informed decision about the healed version of the procedure, the only reason you should not like your permanent cosmetics is if you chose a technician who did not work with you on design and color.
If you cannot communicate with your technician, it is possible your desires will not be realized. If your technician recognizes your requests, but does not take your desires for color or design into account, you should not proceed with the procedure.
Don’t request eyebrow color based on your tinted scalp hair color. That is subject to change and it may affect how you then feel about the color of your permanent cosmetic eyebrows. Eyebrow color should be selected based on your skin undertone and the color of your eyebrow hair (if any.)
Permanent cosmetics are not easily removed. Make good decisions up front. You can enjoy the liberation permanent makeup provides when you do your research and choose a qualified professional that you work well with.

Which Technician Should I Choose?
It is my pleasure and very exciting to meet and work with new clients to accomplish their permanent makeup desires! I have enjoyed applying permanent makeup for over 15 years. I have studied color theory and skin undertones which results in choosing the best color outcome. You will have several pigment colors to choose from. You will have the opportunity to join in and help guide the process. I consider bone structure, skin tone and face shape for your design. You must approve of all design work- colors/shape- before we proceed. This is your face and procedure so therefore it must meet your design expectations. I believe in being conservative in the application process, since a preferred look is natural, subtle and your secret.
Are There Any Side Effects During or After the Procedure?
While eyebrows may show little after effect, eyeliner and lips may show slight to moderate swelling. This is very dependent upon the amount of work performed. As examples; an eyelash enhancement will show very little response to the tattooing procedure compared to a more moderate response when volumizing thicker eyeliner is performed. The same philosophy applies to lip color procedures. A lip liner or blended lip liner will show less effects of the procedure than that of a full lip color. Also, some people swell more from minor skin infractions than others. During the procedure there may be some minor bleeding. This again, is client specific. Many people take blood thinners on a daily basis so some slight bleeding would be expected. Others show little or no signs of bleeding. Bruising is rare but again, if a person is on blood thinners, bruising could occur. What is seen more often is that eyebrows rarely if ever produce any bruising; minor bruising during eyeliner procedures is possible if the skin being tattooed is very thin and close to the vascular system. This also applies to lip procedures in the event the client is more mature. If bruising does occur, typically it is minor and subsides in a few days. There is usually some tenderness for a few days. The color is much darker than you may expect for the first six to ten days. Other less often reported side effects are difficult to determine due to the individuality of each person’s biological system. This is why a client history profile is filled out. It is required in order to assess different factors that may contribute to your cosmetic tattooing experience.
Do The Pigments Pose Allergy Problems?
I offer a pigment allergy test available to you at no charge. People can develop an allergy to anything, anytime; however, pigment allergies are considered rare. Some doctors recommend that people with environmental allergies or allergies to conventional makeup have permanent cosmetic procedures because they can replace cosmetic products that people are sensitive to. While allergic reactions to any type of tattooing pigments on the body or on the face through permanent cosmetics may occur at any point in time, they are extremely rare.
Is There a Possibility for Medical Problems?
The possibility that you would have any problems or reactions from these procedures is almost non-existent with today’s health standards. Medical problems associated with permanent cosmetics are often linked to poor attention to the required aftercare process on behalf of the client. Choose a time for procedures when you feel confident you can follow the simple, but very important after care instructions.
What’s a Follow up or Touch-Up and Do I Need One?
Often the procedure area will require fine adjustments once the initial procedure area has healed. Permanent makeup procedures are a process and may require at least one follow-up appointment. It is recommended that follow up details to the original procedure be performed no sooner than four weeks after the original procedure. The minimum standard for follow-up detail work for lip procedures is six weeks. Lips have a different healing process than procedures performed on other parts of the face due to their delicate nature. A Touch up is usually done well after your initial procedure has healed and is done in order to maintain and refresh color.
Can I Still Have an MRI Scan?
Numerous studies have shown that even for people who have large body tattoos there is little to no potential for irritation resulting from an MRI. In the rare instance where discomfort resulted, it was localized and very temporary. However, with that said, it is prudent to advise your MRI technician that you have permanent cosmetics
More Details/Information
Initially the color may appear too dark, then possibly too light and then....it will heal Just Right!!!
Please be patient and follow the post op instructions for Best Results!
Eyebrows don't swell significantly enough to be noticeable... Eyes swell to different degrees from person to person. The swelling is temporary and subsides within a day or two.
The skin is thicker in the eyebrow area and retains more pigment. You may expect to loose 20-40% of the applied pigment.
Lips show the most dramatic pigment color changes after the procedure! Lip tissue does not have pores or oil glands, so they are the first to expel excess pigment.
You can expect to loose from 50% to 70% of the applied pigment within three to four days after the initial procedure was performed. Lip procedures can require one to three followup sessions depending on how much color is retained
Eyeliner retains color very well. You will experience some swelling on the eyelid and may require one follow up appointment if you choose.
Healing: As the areas begin to heal, the epidermis layer collects and then exfoliates dead skin cells as new cells are generated. As the dead skin cells in the epidermis layer of the skin begin to slough off, tiny particles of pigment that have been trapped in the epidermis are also discarded with the dead skin cells. When the total process is complete, the treated area will appear lighter because only the pigment in the dermis will remain, which is now covered by new skin cells.

PREGNANT or NURSING... You are absolutely not a candidate. Although there is no medical evidence that tattooing would have any effect on an unborn child, we don't know for sure. So we suggest you err on the side of caution and come back after the baby is born and you are no longer nursing.
UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE... I usually will not apply permanent cosmetics to anyone under 18. Although Under very Special circumstances and with parental consent you may qualify.
ON ACCUTANE, RETIN A- Topical Steroids thin the skin... Depending on the stage your skin is at, it may be too fragile to undergo a procedure. You should get clearance from your doctor before considering Permanent Makeup.
ON PRESCRIPTION STRENGTH MEDICATIONS OR TREATMENTS... that affect the dermal layer of the skin can affect the permanent make-up. OTC meds / treatments that only affect the epidermis are not of much concern.
ON ANTICOAGULANTS... (Blood thinners), long-term use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and some herbs reduce clotting time resulting in increased bleeding and bruising, which will affect the implantation of pigment as well as increase the healing time.
HAVE AN AUTO-IMMUNE DISEASE... You should get clearance from your doctor before considering permanent makeup.
Are you DIABETIC. If you are insulin dependent, you are not a candidate for permanent makeup. Healing could be compromised and take longer than average. Otherwise, if your doctor feels your condition is under control you may request a letter stating that you are able to undergo cosmetic tattooing, otherwise, if your doctor feels your condition is under control you may request a letter stating that you are able to undergo cosmetic tattooing. Special care should be taken to prevent infection.
If you have GLAUCOMA... you may not have eyeliner. Increased intra-ocular pressure combined with pressure placed on the eye to apply eyeliner could be damaging. It is important to have this condition under control and have a release from your physician for further consent of the application of eyeliner.
BLOOD DISORDERS... that affect clotting such as hemophilia, sickle cell anemia and platelet disorders could interfere with the implantation of pigment, however it is possible to receive successful implantation of permanent cosmetics.
MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE, ARTIFICIAL HEART VALVES, OR ARTIFICIAL JOINTS. or any person that requires prophylactic antibiotics before dental or other procedures will need consult their physician for treatment prior to permanent cosmetics. Since you may need an antibiotic for permanent cosmetics.
HAVE ANY OTHER HEART CONDITIONS... uncontrolled high blood pressure and poor general health would be of special concern, you will need to see your Physician and discuss the procedure to gain pre-approval.
HERPES SIMPLEX... People who get fever blisters and/or cold sores may experience an outbreak after lip procedures.
It is imperative that you discuss the procedure with your physician BEFORE the procedure and receive proper instruction on how to prevent an outbreak post procedure. Most physicians will offer a prescription for Zovirax or Valtrex to take prior to and after a lip procedure. This measure is to help guard against an outbreak, but it not a guaranteed measure. Should an outbreak occur after pigment implantation you will most likely lose the pigment in the area that you get a sore, resulting in uneven lip color or lip liner.
KELOID OR HYPERTROPHY/ SCARRING... Persons with tendencies for this type of scarring have the same risk with tattooing also. The risk is mainly in the torso area, however, we may decide together to do a patch test to insure that you do not scar in this manner.
If you have ANY medical issues that you feel MIGHT be would be a contraindication, then I suggested you get clearance/approval from your doctor.
